Q. I’ve never worked with a genealogist. What is the process like? What should I expect?
A. During your complimentary consultation which may be in person, via skype, email, or telephone for your convenience, we will discuss your family history goals and develop a research plan. After some paperwork, a retainer is collected and work will begin. You’ll be updated along the way, and when research is complete you’ll receive the results in an electronic report, and a paper copy will be delivered upon request.
Q. How much does it cost?
A. One of the most frequent questions we receive is how much does hiring a genealogist cost? Due to the individual requirements of each project there is no one size fits all answer. While Ancestry has a 20 hour minimum, Shackle Genealogy has a 4 hour minimum, which is the perfect size to begin your genealogical journey, or to give as a unique gift to someone who already has it all.
Q. How long does it take?
A. During your complimentary consultation, we will evaluate the time necessary to reach your specific goal. Each client has different needs, and each package is tailored to meet these specific requirements.
Q. What will I receive?
A. You will receive an electronic report detailing my research and conclusions, including images of documents and records found along the way. It is powerful to see your ancestors signature, or ‘mark’ on a record, and you’ll want to see it! You’ll also be able to share the report with friends and family, as long as proper credit is given to Shackle Genealogy, and all qualifying language is included as used in the final product. A paper copy is provided on request.
Q. Can you guarantee results?
A. There is no telling what research will reveal, so no particular results are guaranteed. Genealogy can be very surprising, and the flip side to this is that you never know what might be discovered!
